Water Law

Since its founding, Fischer, Brown, Bartlett, Larsen & Irby, P.C. has emphasized practice in the field of water law and is regarded as one of the leaders in water law practices in Northern Colorado. Our water law group represents clients from all areas, including municipalities, ranchers, real estate developers and industrial water users. Fischer, Brown, Bartlett, Larsen & Irby, P.C. is employed as special water counsel by the City of Brighton, the City of Northglenn, the City of Littleton and the Town of Hudson. Our attorneys also do work on behalf of rural domestic water providers, such as the Northern Colorado Water Association, and water users associations like the Cache La Poudre Water Users Association.

The issues our attorneys handle range from private disputes between water users to complex litigation with federal and state governments. Our clients’ needs run the gamut from acquiring water rights to protecting existing water rights, from developing augmentation and exchange programs to resisting potentially injurious augmentation and exchange plans of others. With their exceptional negotiation and litigation skills, the water law group has adjudicated numerous decrees for new water rights and change of water rights, and has developed imaginative water augmentation programs and exchanges for our clients.

In addition, Fischer, Brown, Bartlett, Larsen & Irby’s water attorneys represent clients in water quality matters, as well as drainage, seepage and runoff cases. Our attorneys have extensive experience in Colorado’s water courts and before the Colorado Water Quality Control Commission.

Fischer, Brown, Bartlett, Larsen & Irby’s water law group also has significant experience in the legislative realm having participated for many years on the State Affairs Committee of the Colorado Water Congress. Our attorneys have appeared on numerous occasions before Colorado legislative committees concerning water related legislation.
